Supporting our Students

Supporting Health, Wellbeing and Safety at Edenthorpe Hall Primary Academy

At Edenthorpe Hall, our vision of Learn, Thrive, Succeed underpins everything we do. We know that children flourish when they feel safe, build positive relationships, and develop healthy lifestyles. That’s why we place the personal development and wellbeing of every child at the heart of our school.

Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing

We are committed to supporting every child’s emotional wellbeing. Through our Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy, we outline how we promote positive mental health and respond to individual needs.

Our approach includes:

  • The Jigsaw PSHE curriculum, which helps children develop resilience, empathy, and social skills.
  • Circle Time sessions and assemblies that respond to the needs of each class.
  • A focus on resilience and self-awareness, helping children understand what contributes to good mental health.

We recognise that some children, including those with SEND, may need extra support with friendships and social skills. Our staff provide this support with sensitivity and care.

Positive Behaviour and Anti-Bullying

At Edenthorpe Hall, we promote positive behaviour through our values of Curiosity, Scholarship, Tenacity, Honesty, and Respect. These values guide how we learn, play, and grow together.

We have zero tolerance for bullying. Assemblies and lessons regularly explore respect, kindness, and inclusion. Bullying is rare, but when it does occur, we act swiftly and work with all involved to ensure it is resolved and does not become a long-term issue.

Our Behaviour Policy sets out our approach to creating a safe, respectful environment where every child can thrive.

Specialist Support

We provide expert help for children experiencing difficulties with behaviour, relationships, or mental health through:

  • Our Mental Health Lead and trained mental health first aider
  • Student Mentor and named ‘go-to’ adults
  • Support from external professionals such as CAMHS, Educational Psychologists, School Nursing Team, and Early Help services

When a child returns after a fixed-term exclusion, the Principal meets with parents and the child to agree a support plan to help them settle back into school successfully.

Medical Needs

We have an up-to-date Medical Needs Policy and provide tailored support for children with medical conditions.
Children with serious medical needs have an Individual Health Care Plan, which includes:

  • Details of the condition and treatment
  • Educational and emotional support
  • Roles and responsibilities of staff
  • Emergency procedures
  • Support for school trips and long-term absence

We ensure children remain connected to learning and friendships during any extended absence.

Attendance

We work hard to support high attendance for all pupils, including providing home support where needed. Our Attendance Policy explains how we promote regular attendance and why it matters.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is our highest priority. All staff and volunteers:

  • Receive regular training on child protection and safeguarding.
  • Hold an up-to-date DBS check at the appropriate level.
  • Are committed to protecting children from neglect, harm, and abuse.

At Edenthorpe Hall Primary Academy, we strive to create a school where children feel safe, valued, and supported every step of the way—a place where they can truly Learn, Thrive, and Succeed.
